Cancer Dictionary
Short, human definitions of the terms you will meet.
- Biomarker
- A measurable feature of a cancer, often a gene change, that guides treatment choice.
- ctDNA
- Tumour DNA fragments shed into the blood, readable by a liquid biopsy.
- Germline
- Genetic changes you are born with and can pass on. The focus of Heritage.
- MRD
- Molecular residual disease. Microscopic cancer left after treatment, found by Clear.
- MSI
- A sign the tumour’s DNA repair is faulty. Often predicts immunotherapy response.
- Somatic
- Changes a tumour acquires during life. Not inherited.
- TMB
- Tumour mutational burden. How many mutations a tumour carries.
- Targeted therapy
- A drug aimed at a specific molecular change driving the cancer.

Biomarker Library

| EGFR | Common driver in lung cancer, with several approved targeted therapies. |
| ALK, ROS1, RET | Fusion drivers with highly effective targeted drugs. |
| KRAS | A frequent driver, historically hard to target, now with emerging options. |
| BRAF | A driver across several cancers, with approved targeted combinations. |
| HER2 (ERBB2) | Amplification or mutation opening a well-established therapy class. |
| NTRK fusions | Rare but highly actionable across many cancer types. |
| BRCA1 and BRCA2 | DNA repair genes. Can open drug classes and signal hereditary risk. |
| MSI and MMR | Faulty DNA repair. Often predicts immunotherapy response. |
| TMB | How many mutations a tumour carries. Can point toward immunotherapy. |
